First 5 Pages of Kemper County

FIRST OUTLINE I MADE FOR "THE FATHER"

I'm basically a screenwriter so I attack a novel as I would a screenplay. I spent weeks or months trying to figure out a concept, then longer figuring out what is it really about. Then I list the major beats before I go to THE BOARD. Once THE BOARD is complete I begin to actually write. I follow a mix between Joseph Campbell and "Save The Cat" that I have developed into my own method. I'll explain my method in a later post.

Here is the outline for "The Father". This collection of sentence fragments and misspelled words is the fruit of months of painstaking work. Hopefully it will provide some insight. Once again, please follow the blog and comment. I will answer any and all question posted in the comment section.

MID SCENE 20. [CUT DIFFERENTLY] Dwayne and Aaron are in the middle of a conversation as Dwayne is cooking heroin on a spoon and drawing it up in to a syringe .

Below are the first two chapters of The Father. The Father is the first novel in a trilogy I have been working on. There was blood everywhere.

Dr. Henry Le Blanc leaned over the body of his 6 year old patient. His hand shook like a leaf in the wind passing the oscillating saw to the nurse. He had begun cutting into the boys chest when the unmaintained saw stopped working. He would have to open the boys chest the old fashion way, with brut force.

Henry feared cutting into such a small body with what was basically a hack saw. Nevertheless, he motioned toward the saw. Then the nurse, Maria, passed it to him.
