Dr. Mejia was a stout man who loved his cigars as much as or possible more than he loved his American wife. He smoked one in the morning after breakfast, and he had another after lunch and dinner. In between, he chewed and sucked on a cigar the entire day. Once it would become nice and sloppy wet with his saliva, he would then truly begin to enjoy it. Sometimes that stick would be discarded if it fell apart or he would suck on it until he had the chance to light it. Dr. Mejia was a true tobacco connoisseur.

SUGAR (A POEM)

I used to write poetry. When  I was in 18 it was all I desired to write. I had volumes and volumes of poetry written. Hurricane Katrina took them away and I have not written any poetry since.  The other day the bug to write this hit me. It flowed out out of me naturally and at the very least it is a raw and as true to myself as I can be as a writer.  Feel free to tear it apart.

"THE FATHER" FIRST 5 CHAPTERS

This is the first 5 Chapters of my novel "The Father." "The Father" is the first book of a trilogy that I have been working on. The pages here have not been edited but I don't mind if you don't.

LOGLINE: Returning home to his wife and children from a mission trip to Central America a young self absorbed Doctor is starting to lose his mind, believing he's been possessed by a demon on his trip. When he starts to imagine that his wife has been impregnated with the anti-christ, he must Stop the child from being born.

Sundays were church days for Dawn and Luke. Henry 

never did attend mass regularly, so Dawn did not miss him as 

much on these days. 

As she headed out of the Church she thought about how 

she enjoyed the fellowship with the other parishioners of 

Resurrection of our Lord. She even didn't mind the nosey old 

ladies that bugged her about the absence of her handsome 

husband. She answers all of their intrusions with a kind heart. 

Her husband was a busy man and he preferred to pray in 

private. But, Henry was a devoted Catholic who loved the 

pope just as much as anyone else.

FIRST OUTLINE I MADE FOR "THE FATHER"

I'm basically a screenwriter so I attack a novel as I would a screenplay. I spent weeks or months trying to figure out a concept, then longer figuring out what is it really about. Then I list the major beats before I go to THE BOARD. Once THE BOARD is complete I begin to actually write. I follow a mix between Joseph Campbell and "Save The Cat" that I have developed into my own method. I'll explain my method in a later post.

Here is the outline for "The Father". This collection of sentence fragments and misspelled words is the fruit of months of painstaking work. Hopefully it will provide some insight. Once again, please follow the blog and comment. I will answer any and all question posted in the comment section.

Dr. Henry Le Blanc leaned over the body of his 6 year old patient. His hand shook like a leaf in the wind passing the oscillating saw to the nurse. He had begun cutting into the boys chest when the unmaintained saw stopped working. He would have to open the boys chest the old fashion way, with brut force.

Henry feared cutting into such a small body with what was basically a hack saw. Nevertheless, he motioned toward the saw. Then the nurse, Maria, passed it to him.
